High-tech, financial and telecommunications firms have boomed in large Georgia cities such as Atlanta, Athens and Albany over the past 20 years.
In Atlanta, for instance, the number of computer service firms, including internet firms, computer programmers, and certain high-tech businesses, has exploded, now 700% higher than it was in 1980. The number of telecommunications firms, including companies devoted to cellular phones, paging and beeper services, long distance, and local telephone service, has experienced an even more impressive increase, now twenty times or 2,000% greater than the 1980 figure.
Population centers in Georgia include cities such as Atlanta, Macon, Albany, and Savannah.
